Edisto’s Restaurants “There ain’t nothing finer than being in Carolina…” especially when it comes to Southern Cooking. And Edisto is no exception to the rule. Our Lowcountry Seafood is not to be matched anywhere on the East Coast. Caught fresh daily from the ocean and creeks surrounding Edisto, are Shrimp, oysters, clams, Blue Crabs, Mahi Mahi, Yellow Fin Tuna, Flounder and so much more. Our restaurants pride themselves in giving our visitors a meal to remember.
The Old Post Office Restaurant 1442 Hwy 174 Edisto Island, SC 29438 (next to With These Hands Gallery) This is the most prominent building that you're likely to see as you drive through the forests and fields across Edisto Island. About 5 miles from the beach, the restaurant was once a combination post office and general store, as its weathered clapboards and old-time architecture imply. Chef Philip Bardin and his partners, who transformed the premises in 1988, prepare a worthy compendium of Low Country cuisine and serve it in copious portions. Try island corn and crabmeat chowder, Orangeburg onion sausage with black bean sauce, scallops and grits with mousseline sauce, fried quail with duck-stock gravy, and "fussed-over" pork chops with hickory-smoked tomato sauce. This is probably the only restaurant on Edisto that you will need to make reservations. This is one of those “do not miss” experiences.
